Two members of Down the Tiny Steps hail from Birnam on the edge of the
Highlands, and the band have the enviable backing of the Fence
collective. It’s not hard to see why on the evidence this cracking
three track single, which has shades of folk but with a rough-edged
blues backbone. Although I hate to employ an often over-used
association at the moment, comparisons with the Beta Band are
unavoidable, particularly vocally. The third track ends in a Stone
Roses style instrumental wig-out which sits astride the borderline
between enjoyable and self indulgent. Overall though, a very promising
first single.
